"Lauren Grennnen of the Nanuet Family Resource Center has been a tremendous support to my family and me and has readily made herself available. She is so kind in dealing with parents. She makes you feel comfortable and supported. Lauren has reached out to me and introduced family parenting groups that have helped tremendously in fostering good parenting skills. This year she introduced me to a summer camp for my son that would have been impossible for me to send him to under normal circumstances due to my financial state. She made it happen! Lauren has helped me with discipline and other issues that arise with children and is very approachable and non- judgemental, which makes me feel comfortable. The resource center is a wonderful avenue for parents with a plethora of information available to everyone who needs it. "

" In a meeting at Head Start today, the name Anne Nissen from Sloatsburg Elementary School's FRC was glofied! The early Head Start Coordinator attends Anne's Friday night play group and she says there is nothing she can do to convince her kids not to go, even when she is exhausted. She says it is truly the best!"

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Liberty elementary school and especially "Miss Vivian" as my girls call her. The Wednesday morning Liberty program has been the highlight of the week for them. The girls started the program at the age of 2 and have grown with it. Miss Vivian is well prepared and takes great effort to learn things about all of the children. Thank you Vivan Berrios!"

"How fortunate for our families to have such an incredible resource as Julie Kassel at VCE! She makes such a difference in so many lives everyday! I am so grateful for the positive impact she has had on my daughter's life. Your genuine spirit and the ability to listen in the Girls Group without passing judgement gave them the confidence to share their feelings."

"I participated in the Family Resource Center Program (FRC) this past year with my 3 year old daughter. I was not sure what to expect when I first entered the FRC, but was pleasantly surprised from the first day. Liz Zurla runs an excellent program. She was always organized, well prepared for the day's activity and excited about seeing everyone. She quickly learned all the children's names and made each one of them feel special. My daughter loved going to 'school' every week because she felt it was a safe and fun place.

The planned activities were well thought out and age appropriate. I am still amazed at the diversity of the activities. The children were exposed to yoga, tennis, mad science and dental hygiene. They even visited a planetarium! The arts and crafts projects were fun and perfect for the time of year or holiday. There was time for reading stories, having snack and just playing. The children had a great time every week.

The FRC also provided the adults with an opportunity to meet other parents, teachers and administrators. This program is a great way to bring parents into the school and start getting them involved. This is a wonderful program!"

"The Family Resource Center is an enriching and nurturing place where the things I work on at home are all reinforced. Colors, letters, shapes, numbers, etc. are explored through creative activities, wonderful art projects and fund and educational field trips. My 3 year old daughter loved her time at the FRC. It was a great opportunity to learn new things and work on her socialization skills. Additionally, it was a great place for me to meet and socialize with other parents. I was able to develop friendships that will continue throughout the years. Liz is such a kind, nurturing and energetic person who makes the FRC the wonderful place that it is."

"It can be overwhelming to find services for children and it is hard to be confident that you have selected the best option. Last year Lauren Grennan and the Nanuet Family Resource Center helped me to identify a child care center for my son and an after-school program for my daughter. When I wanted to identify an affordable summer camp the FRC staff gave me several options. In each of these situations the FRC provided me with the information I needed and helped me to feel completely secure that my children were going to be safe and happy.

I am most grateful to Lauren Grennan for her support after the death of my father. She helped me find a counselor for my youngest child who was acting out at school because he missed his grandfather. She sent us a touching sympathy card and a book that helped the children and I talk about our feelings. Lauren was personally supportive and caring at a time when I really needed that kind of help.

The Family Resource Center coordinator has been invaluable to me as a teacher at Liberty Elementary School. I currently have three students in my class that have directly benefited from her interventions. Two of the students have parents that speak limited or no English. Mrs. Vivian Berrios has acted as an interpreter on many occasions. Issues that involve enrollment in after school education classes, permission slips and clarification of homework issues are just a few of the situations where I have gone to her for help.

One of my students was not going to take part in a field trip that the class was going on. I was perplexed by the situation but the student only conveyed to me that her parents said she couldn’t go. Mrs. Berrios called the parents and found out that they were concerned for the student’s safety. She explained where we were going and why. Consequently the parents allowed their child to go. I feel that Mrs. Berrios’ ability to converse with the parents in their native language made them feel more comfortable about the trip. The trip was very relevant to the fourth grade curriculum. This student particularly benefited from seeing a historical site due to her limited experience of United States history along with a limited English vocabulary.

Mrs. Berrios also acted as an interpreter for a parent-teacher conference. The parents were unable to attend a meeting at the school so she acted as an interpreter during a phone conference.
During the school year two of my students were identified as needing glasses. Here again Mrs. Berrios stepped in and consulted with the parents as to where they may receive assistance in obtaining glasses.

Having a Family Resource Center coordinator in the school building allows me to meet the needs of my students in a timely manner. I know that I can go to her and have immediate attention addressing issues that benefit the educational and emotional well being of my students.

"Joanne and Julie took time out of their busy schedule to help my student with her science project. I am grateful for people like them who see the potential in every child!"
